My work explores themes of fantasy, the uncanny, and memory. Growing up within the folkloric landscapes of Glastonbury and Somerset, childhood memories and fantasy narratives sometimes blur. I reflect upon this hazy crossover through zoomorphic figures that straddle the boundary between human and animal, sweet and unnerving.

My incorporation of multimedia such as fabric and thread aligns the figure’s relationship to the world with our own. They interact with these materials as we do, letting us see elements of ourselves in their strange forms.

To technically translate these themes I use maiolica, a glazing process that comes with its own evolution of narrative histories. The oxide-based designs invariably flow and alter during firing and, much like folktales, indicate a shifting of reality.
