I am a ceramicist living and working in the South Wales Valleys. This area has a rich industrial heritage and I aim to convey something of its landscape, geology and history in my work. I combine translucent parian porcelain with historically significant materials such as ironstone and iron slag, obtaining unique colours and textures that result from the specific geology and history of this area.I am interested in the relationship between form and pattern, with the process of nerikomi being integral to my practice.
Clays are rolled, layered, sliced and joined, the patterns created becoming the structure of the finished piece. Through the application of light, these patterns are then transformed, highlighting the material properties of the parian.
