My work is a study of landscape, material, and the histories that are embedded within them. I combine parian porcelain with local materials, sourced from the post-industrial landscapes of the South Wales Valleys – ironstone, iron slag and clay. These bring subtle variations in colour and texture, as unique and specific as the localities they derive from. I incorporate these materials within my practice as a celebration of place, encapsulating their narratives in clay.
I am intrigued by the translucent nature of porcelain and the transformation it undergoes with varying applications of light. I utilise this characteristic fully within my functional pieces, bringing together elements of material, landscape and form into objects of both meaning and purpose.
