Biography

Stefanie Smith is a Canadian-born artist currently residing in Cardiff, Wales. She recently completed her Masters in Ceramics and Maker from Cardiff Metropolitan University, and is a current graduate artist in residence at Fireworks Clay Studios.

She received her BFA(Visual) from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2007, Certificate in Ceramics at Haliburton School of the Arts in 2011 and was the Ceramic Practicum at the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity in 2019.

Stefanie is the recipient of multiple awards from the Craft Council of Newfoundland & Labrador, and her pieces are displayed in the collection of The Rooms Provincial Art Bank.

Stefanie has also participated in a number of artistic residencies around the world, mostly recently at the European Ceramics Work Centre in the Netherlands in 2021.

Her practice consists of a combination of functional and sculptural ceramics, and her current work explores ideas of myth, memory and identity.
